Switching questions, 2 leads to 1:

2) THE WORST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS?

I suffered from depression a year and a half ago. I felt so empty and distraught that I had to get hospitalized. I couldn’t recognize myself and it was terrifying. This crisis also deprived me from moments of joy with my loved ones and it still makes me sad when I think about what I missed.

1) THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS

Dealing with mental health issues helped me grow in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Looking back, it was the best thing that could happen to me. I finally got together with my soul twin. I quit my comfort zone to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I also experienced the healing power of sisterhood. I feel so grateful for the wondrous sisters who helped me getting better.

3) YOUR BIGGEST WISH FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

I wish for patriarchy - and all its ramifications (aka capitalism and the endless exploitation of resources and people for profit and the resulting pollution and human suffering), to end. We need an economical and political shift towards a much better care of the environment now. I also deeply wish for equal rights, no matter your gender, origin or sexual preference.

4) YOUR BIGGEST WORRY FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

Working with kids makes me worry about the world they’re growing up in. I fear that only ineffective and half baked measures will be taken to fight the climate crisis. I also fear that people might become more selfish and prone to follow nationalist leaders.

5) A CONTEMPORARY WOMAN YOU CURRENTLY ADMIRE?

Adwoa Aboah. She created this amazing community @gurlstalk to raise awareness about mental health issues. The aim is to “become individually and collectively stronger and influence a positive impact on the world” by speaking up in a judgement-free space. I discovered her work as an activist when I felt pretty bad and it was so empowering not to feel alone struggling.

6) A ONE-SENTENCE MESSAGE TO OTHER WOMEN?

Take care of your body and soul, support your sisters, stand up for your rights and have faith in your power to improve the world!
