AUNDREA

Aundréa | Creative writer | Travel journalist | Content producer | Passionate about storytelling | Currently traveling through Southeast Asia. My first time formally "backpacking". Usually, you’d catch me stationed in one place for work or school but I feel confident to take my life on the road for a while!

1) THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS?

In the past 12 months, I took a risk and quit working full time at my "Dream Job". Once I felt myself struggling to maintain a healthy work/ life balance, I decided to freelance full time and take control of my mental health!

2) THE WORST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS?

The worst part about quitting your job to continue traveling overseas is that not everyone will understand. I’ve had some difficulties coping with some loneliness or feelings of isolation but I also have a therapist that works remotely, which makes things so much easier for me.

3) YOUR BIGGEST WISH FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

My biggest wish for the future is that my stories make a difference in a person's life. One of the best things you can do for a writer is to read their work. So when one person tells me that my writing has helped them/ changed them/ inspired them, it’s a wish come true.

4) YOUR BIGGEST WORRY FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

Something I often worry about is if I'll earn enough money in my field to give back to the world. I don't want to leave this planet selfishly. Deep down I yearn to be wealthy simply to give it right back to the women, to the artists, to the minorities, and to the under-represented.

5) A CONTEMPORARY WOMAN YOU CURRENTLY ADMIRE?

A contemporary woman that I admire is Issa Rae! Her humble approach to writing and storytelling makes her success that much more inspiring. She makes me think that if she’s done it, any of us can do it.

6) A ONE-SENTENCE MESSAGE TO OTHER WOMEN?

Women, continue to show emotion. It's our secret weapon.
