WANA

Wana | A storyteller whose work is at the intersection of journalism, poetry and film | I love culture, travel, food, art and adventure | I work out of Lagos, Nigeria

1) THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS?

Can I have two things? Being featured on CNN's African Voices and then watching Janelle Monae and Lauryn Hill perform at the North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam with dearest of friends.

.

.

2) THE WORST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS?

I lost a friend in a road accident and found myself swaying between anxiety and melancholy for the first 6 months of the year.

.

.

3) YOUR BIGGEST WISH FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

I want to be able to perform my poetry across the world, write compelling stories, make mesmerising films, find love and buy a really nice and quaint house.

.

.

4) YOUR BIGGEST WORRY FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

I often struggle with being content and making peace with things. I find that sometimes I am and other times I'm not. So I worry a lot that I may not achieve the kind of financial freedom I desire being a storyteller and artist.

.

.

5) A CONTEMPORARY WOMAN YOU CURRENTLY ADMIRE?

I absolutely love Ava Duvernay. Her commitment and consistency to telling certain kinds of stories is nothing short of admirable.

.

.

6) A ONE-SENTENCE MESSAGE TO OTHER WOMEN?

Just put one foot in front of the other. Making the step is already winning. For the rest of it, you will cross that bridge when you get there.
