1) THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS?

One of the best things that has happened to me in the past 12 months is graduating and moving onto college! Although my high school years got cut short, it feels amazing to get back into the school routine and meet new people/live in an entirely new environment!

2) THE WORST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS?

I wouldn’t say it is the WORST thing that has happened to me, but the COVID-19 pandemic did cut my high school experience short. I wasn’t able to meet some of my friends before leaving college to say goodbye, but I am thankful that all of my loved ones have been able to stay safe throughout the pandemic.

3) YOUR BIGGEST WISH FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

My biggest wish for the near future is that the number of women working in the medical community increases. According to 2019 data, in the medical profession overall, male doctors still outnumber female doctors, 64 percent to 36 percent. Although we are seeing an increase in female doctors over the years, there is still a lack of diversity in terms of gender, hindering future innovations and discoveries.

4) YOUR BIGGEST WORRY FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?

I don’t really have a big worry for the near future, but I do hope that the conditions surrounding the pandemic start to improve - or that more people get vaccinated and take care of their health to try to improve the overall health of our population/ limit the spread of the virus!

5) A CONTEMPORARY WOMAN YOU CURRENTLY ADMIRE?

There are many women in this world that I admire, but I think Gitanjali Rao

is one of the most inspirational to me. There’s so much that she’s been able to achieve at such a young age, and observing her passion towards the STEM field and making a difference in society has left an impact on me.

6) A ONE-SENTENCE MESSAGE TO OTHER WOMEN?

Follow your heart, reach out, meet new people, and believe in yourself - if you can dream it, you can definitely achieve it!

THE WORLD HAS BEEN CHANGING DRAMATICALLY IN RECENT MONTHS:

7) HOW ARE YOU COPING?

I am doing amazing! Although the pandemic is not over, being able to come to school every day and interact with peers and professors in a classroom environment is wonderful.

8) WHICH CHANGE OR EVENT HAS AFFECTED YOU THE MOST / HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON YOU PERSONALLY?

The COVID-19 pandemic has actually given me a lot of time to introspect and find out different things about myself. For example, throughout the pandemic, I’ve learned that I enjoy embroidery, graphic and website design, and doing puzzles! Socially, I have maintained connections with high school friends through Zoom, Discord, and Slack, while meeting new people here at college!

9) WHAT ARE YOU MOST CONCERNED ABOUT THE RIGHT NOW?

Right now, there are so many movements and protests going on such as #BlackLivesMatter #MeToo #MyAsianAmericanStory #RacismStillExists #Hinduphobia, which are all important and concerning issues of the modern-day.
